Black & Blum wanted to create the world’s first fully leak proof stainless steel lunch box. When they started work on this design, there were other stainless steel lunch boxes on the market, but none of them were truly leak proof. It was extremely challenging to achieve this, while still keeping the design minimal. Although the final product might look simple, it took many iterations to perfect. The slider/divider, an addition to steel lunch boxes that we were the first to innovate, also went through many different changes. The functional design is timeless in aesthetic with a retro military/utilitarian look. In essence it is an engineered steel box, but the carefully considered radiuses give it a softer ergonomic appeal. The silicone band holds the fork, give it a colour accent and is also a design reference nod to traditional Japanese Bento box designs. The end result is an iconic design that will age well and is a pleasure to carry your food in and eat from.

SECURE DESIGN
The valve on the lid ensures extra security for a leak-free experience. The valve must be open for the lid to open, and pushed firmly down to close.

FAQ'S
How do I remove the lid of the Stainless Steel Box Large?
Simply pull the valve up (until it stops and meets resistance, not fully off), and lift the lid by lifting at the corners. If the box contains liquids, be careful, as they may spill.
Does this product leak?
This Stainless Steel Box Large is 100% leak proof if used correctly. The box must be locked and sealed properly. To ensure this you simply need to check the edges of the base and silicone seal on the lid are dry and clean. Push the lid down firmly, ensuring it’s completely shut on all sides and then shut the valve. The silicone strap can be used for extra security. You MUST ensure all hot foods are cool before shutting the lid, as this may cause the box to leak.
Can the Stainless Steel Box Large go in the microwave?
NO, this product is made of steel and CANNOT be used in the microwave.
Can the Stainless Steel Box Large be used in the oven?
Yes, you can place the base/slider divider in the oven, however, because you cannot remove the silicone seal from the lid, the lid must not go in the oven. Please be aware that using it in the oven may cause the box to become discoloured.
Can the Stainless Steel Box Large be used in the freezer?
You can use this box in the freezer, but please be aware liquids expand when frozen so be careful not to overfill.
Can the Stainless Steel Box Large go in the dishwasher?
You should only wash the lid and silicone strap by hand, however the rest of the product can go in the dishwasher. However DO NOT USE cleaners containing chlorine or bleach, abrasive cloths or scrubbers on the product as the finish will dull.

'We launched our first lunch box design in 2010 and this helped inspire and ignite the whole marketplace for food on-the-go. At the time, although the Japanese were using beautiful bento boxes, the West was making do with standard waxy plastic food containers. Today, the market is transformed and far more aware of the eco, health and financial benefits of taking your own food with you. So much so, that we are now seeing a growing trend of people meal prepping and batch cooking. This might be people following a certain diet for health or fitness, trying to live more sustainably or simply saving money. From a design standpoint, we saw this as a great opportunity to create a range of food containers with different volumes and shapes to suit the individual user and food type. The design is simple and minimal; stripped back to the bare essentials to allow it to be competitively priced but remaining truly functional.
