Black & Blum wanted to create the world’s first fully leak proof stainless steel lunch box. When they started work on this design, there were other stainless steel lunch boxes on the market, but none of them were truly leak proof. It was extremely challenging to achieve this, while still keeping the design minimal. Although the final product might look simple, it took many iterations to perfect. The slider/divider, an addition to steel lunch boxes that we were the first to innovate, also went through many different changes. The functional design is timeless in aesthetic with a retro military/utilitarian look. In essence it is an engineered steel box, but the carefully considered radiuses give it a softer ergonomic appeal. The silicone band holds the fork, give it a colour accent and is also a design reference nod to traditional Japanese Bento box designs. The end result is an iconic design that will age well and is a pleasure to carry your food in and eat from.

LEAK FREE DESIGN
A valve on the top means extra security and risk-free, leak proof functionality. Lift the valve to open and push down to securely close.
LEAK PROOF LID
The stainless steel lunch box lid is specially designed with over-moulded silicone to be leak proof and easy to clean.
SILICONE STRAP & FORK
The stainless steel fork is simply and securely held by the silicone strap. The strap gives added reassurance that the lid cannot open unintentionally.
FAQ'S
How do I open the Stainless Steel Box?
To open the box/release the vacuum, pull the valve upwards. Then separate the lid from the box by pulling at a corner/short side. Please be careful when the box contains liquids.
Is the Stainless Steel Box leak proof?
Yes, the Stainless Steel Box is leak proof. To ensure the box is locked & sealed properly, check that the edges of the base and silicone seal on the lid are clean and dry. Firmly push the lid down on all sides and then press the valve down. Secure the box with the silicone strap. WARNING – Allow hot foods to cool first before transporting, as otherwise the box could leak.
Is the Stainless Steel Box microwave safe?
WARNING: Do not use in the microwave.
Is the Stainless Steel Box oven safe?
Yes, the base is oven safe; however the lid is not and please note that using the box in the oven could cause discolouration.
Is the Stainless Steel box freezer safe?
Yes, the box is freezer safe for food storage.
Is the Stainless Steel Box dishwasher safe?
The Steel box base, the fork and slider-divider are dishwasher safe. Please ensure you always wash the lid and strap by hand only.

'We launched our first lunch box design in 2010 and this helped inspire and ignite the whole marketplace for food on-the-go. At the time, although the Japanese were using beautiful bento boxes, the West was making do with standard waxy plastic food containers. Today, the market is transformed and far more aware of the eco, health and financial benefits of taking your own food with you. So much so, that we are now seeing a growing trend of people meal prepping and batch cooking. This might be people following a certain diet for health or fitness, trying to live more sustainably or simply saving money. From a design standpoint, we saw this as a great opportunity to create a range of food containers with different volumes and shapes to suit the individual user and food type. The design is simple and minimal; stripped back to the bare essentials to allow it to be competitively priced but remaining truly functional.
